Overcoming hurdles – coming closer to God

Schools have started again. Back to the ordinary… biking through the rain with friends, being late for school, stress for the exams taken, nervous because the teacher might find out you didn’t do your homework. The great atmosphere of youth camp is far away, like it is a different world that can’t be combined with your ordinary daily life.

The unsettling idea that our Church today is not the way that God intended for it to be, plays through my head while reading ‘Pagan Christianity?’ by Viola and Barna. What has happened? Did we really allow for the Church to be polluted by pagan culture that badly? Apparently most of our traditions come from pagan culture in some way.

Self Image – Offending your Creator?

I recently heard a testimony from a woman who suffered from a low self-esteem. Someone had made the comment that ‘If you have a negative opinion on yourself, you are offending your Creator’. I am very glad this person got strength and comfort out of this sentence, because I fear it could have been very different. It could have caused another layer of guilt on top of the low self-esteem.

The world today tries the oddest things in order to feel better – to fit better in your own skin as a Dutch expression says. Recently I came across a little video. It is in German, but the lyrics to the song are something like this: ‘Every cell of my body is happy. Every body cell is feeling good. Every cell in it’s own place, every cell is in a very good mood.’
